Daniel Illy has made his dream come true. At just 16, he is participating in the FREERIDE JUNIOR TOUR for the last three seasons. But his dreams have gone far beyond… He’s been able to ski with two riders of the caliber of Niki Salencon involved in the FWT and their coach Juan Catasus.
 
This is one of the first episodes of a project that gives the opportunity for junior riders to ski with riders form the FWT.

In this edit you will see them in an awesome heli-ski session skiing the couloirs of  Trient. In the occasiaon they were lucky enough to have press permision to land without restriction. Making a potentially good day to a day they will never forget.

Juan tells us “I train Dani since he was 8 years old, and from the first day we skied together he was always the most motivatedlittle skier I had skied with. Always wanting to go off-piste. Now at 16 years and all the experiences we’ve had, I see him more like a ski partner  than anything else. We’ve already had a couple of adrenaline situations  like small avalanches, steep couloirs, exposed traverses etc etc… Lucky  for me he is a guy who has his feet on the ground so I can rely on when it comes to pushing the limits in a safe way.”

Juan was for 8 seasons working as a ski instructor in Grandvalira Andorra. He stole the Powder in Whistler where he spent four more seasons, alternating nine more seasons in Chile and in 2012 graduated as an Alaska heliskiing guide. Now based in Verbier for the last 6 seasons where he spends his time drawing lines in Les 4 Vallées and other ski areas in the Alps.

Niki’s strong technique is evident in his skiing, fast and clean, as seen for example during his career on the podium at the extreme of Verbier, mythical Bec du Rosse. Currently, Salençon continues to develop his freestyle skills in natural features in his freeride lines. He is definitely someone to be reckoned with in the world of Freeriding.
